Martina Stabler - YWAM, Harpenden, England

Picture
I serve full time with Youth With A Mission(YWAM) in Harpenden, England. I will be staffing Discipleship Training Schools and helping lead missions trips to places like Greece, Albania, western Asia and the Caribbean. God has put a particular island in the Caribbean on my heart years ago. My heart is to connect with Churches on this island and come alongside the believers there and encourage them as they bring the gospel of Jesus to their nation.

First few weeks in England :)Hi everyone,
I am out of quarantine! I have moved in to my apartment here at the YWAM base and feel very much at home here, even though I do miss Florida and it’s sunshine a lot. At the moment I am participating in a leadership course which is a part of my 8 week staff orientation. When I'm not in this class I am working in the YWAM Harpenden Reception.
Discipleship Training School
We have a team of two leaders and two staff including myself. We are still processing applications for the Bilingual DTS in January and praying for those who have gotten accepted. Many of them need to raise funds and get visas, so there is plenty to do. We are trusting God to provide all that is needed to get the right people here. As a staff team we started going to one of the nearby cities to look for evangelism opportunities. On Sunday we sat in a café and did some painting. We are wanting to pass out some of the pictures we painted to people we encounter as we walk around the city, and offer prayer or just start conversations. The hope is that this becomes a weekly routine that carries in to the Discipleship Training School in January.

Life at YWAM Harpenden
As I mentioned, one of my staff responsibilities is to work in the YWAM Harpenden reception for part of the week. This always keeps me on my toes. Fun little story: The YWAM Harpenden campus used to be a children’s home and orphanage which closed in 1985, and soon after, the founders of YWAM Harpenden purchased the land. Occasionally, we get people who used to be in the children’s home here, requesting to visit and take a trip down memory lane. On my first day working in the reception, I was a bit clueless and by a bit of a misunderstanding, ended up agreeing to give a woman who lived here during WWII a tour of the YWAM Harpenden campus. She showed up a week later. I was able to walk with her and her great niece and hear her stories of her time here as a little girl during the war. She had not been back since she had to leave as a 15 year old girl, but I think coming back to visit was very healing for her. It was such a great experience being able to hear her stories, and hear how the land that YWAM Harpenden is on has such a rich history of caring for young people.

Cuba
Upon arriving, I was encouraged to take initiative in all things regarding Cuba. The plan is to have the DTS outreach go to Cuba in March, but I am also hoping to put together a smaller staff outreach to Cuba as soon as possible. Like for most nations, COVID 19 has left Cuba in a devastating state. In Havana, people spend the entire day looking for food and most people are concerned with nothing more than getting through to the next day. My DTS leaders and I have been in regular contact with different churches in Cuba and have joined the in times of 24 hour prayer for their nation. We feel very strongly that what is needed to break through hopelessness is worship, and we want to take a team of three or 4 people who would go to different churches across Cuba and join in writing worship music. YWAM Harpenden has some very gifted musicians. At the moment Cuba still has it’s borders closed and almost the entire nation is on lockdown. Would you join me in prayer? If it is God’s will for a team of us to go to Cuba and worship him with our brother’s and sisters, he will make a way for that. We are wanting to be wise, and obedient to him.

As always, thank you so much for your support and prayers. I feel so blessed to be able to see God working in different ways daily. I pray that you all would continue to experience his faithfulness and blessings in your lives.

Blessings,

Martina
