Martina Stabler - YWAM, Harpenden, England
I serve full time with Youth With A Mission(YWAM) in Harpenden, England. I will be staffing Discipleship Training Schools and helping lead missions trips to places like Greece, Albania, western Asia and the Caribbean. God has put a particular island in the Caribbean on my heart years ago. My heart is to connect with Churches on this island and come alongside the believers there and encourage them as they bring the gospel of Jesus to their nation.

What an Adventure! Our team spent 6 weeks in Thessaloniki. This was very much a pioneer outreach and we arrived with only a few contacts and ideas of what we would actually do in Greece.
We worked a with a refugee Care Center and were able to get connected with a small local church that meets in a Coffee shop and spent most of our time working with them. This church had been gifted a building which they are currently renovating as it was severely damaged in the great fire of Thessaloniki in 1917 and had been left unrestored since. This building will be turned in to a place of refuge for women escaping domestic violence and single girls who are pregnant and do not have a way to support themselves and their baby. Our team was originally only meant to help out one day, but we ended up building wonderful friendships with the members of this church and the men who were working on the renovation site. Some are believers and others not. I think everyone on our team would say that these days spent working in Olympiados (The name of the street where the building is located) were the highlight of our time there.
Personally, this outreach was a bit of a challenge. I was meant to be co leading with another member of staff at YWAM Harpenden. Her visa was being delayed so she was meant to join us a few days in to the trip, but her visa ended up being denied entirely, leaving me in charge. The sudden responsibility of leading an outreach came as a bit of a shock and we probably spent the first few days running around like chickens with their heads cut off. However, our team saw God’s faithfulness in so many ways, from getting us from one end of the country to the other after missing our flight, to showing us favour in hospitals and police stations, and in blessing us beyond what we can imagine through people’s generosity and hospitality during our whole stay in Thessaloniki.
Testimony: We faced a lot of spiritual battles in our time in Greece. I think the biggest one being that there is a lot of disunity among God’s people in Greece. Most churches and ministries (both Greek Orthodox and Evangelical) are very suspicious of one another and we were met with that same mistrust when we first arrived. The Holy Spirit quickly showed us that humility and service spoke volumes to the Greeks who in recent years have often been overlooked by the many who come to help refugees. While it was a challenging start, we left Greece with wonderful new friendships, and we were able to connect different groups of believers in Greece who beforehand kept each other at arm’s length. Please join me in praying that God would continue to unify believers in Greece so they can more perfectly demonstrate God’s love to those around them who do not know him.
All of the students of the Discipleship training school have safely made it back to their home countries and I am back in England getting some rest and will also be visiting my family for 2 weeks. I will soon send another update on what is next for me here at YWAM Harpenden. For now, I am grateful to be back home, as these past 6 months have been intense. If you want to hear more stories of what God did in the Discipleship Training School and on outreach, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me, I’d love to share.
Thank you so much for your prayers.
Blessings,
Martina
